December volunteer activity

Egypte Woods to Wolfs LairSunday 14th December 2014 – Egypte, Trinity – 10:30 – 13.00

From Jersey Conservation Volunteers

Ho ho ho ‘tis the season to…… do some woodland management (whilst also being merry of course!)

The final task of 2014 will be on Sunday 14th December 10.30-13.00 on Société Jersiaise land at Egypte, Trinity

The details Woodland management.

The site Directions from Trinity Parish Hall here

Telephone directory Map 4, F2 (at the north eastern point of Rue d’Egypte). The event will also be sign-posted from the junction of Rue des Platons with Rue d’Egypte.

Important The only parking available for this event will be off road in fields by kind permission of the land owner. Please also note that it is a 10 – 15 minute downhill walk to the work area, which is on a steep slope making this a fairly strenuous task, but don’t let this put you off, we will endeavour to find work suitable for everyone!

The task A small copse of trees was planted on the slopes above Wolf’s Lair on the North Coast some 15 to 20 years ago. These have now got to a good size and require some further management. We will be removing shelters and stakes; cutting and weeding where necessary and also doing some light pruning of the trees. We will also then be creating some dead hedging with the resulting timber.

Tools needed We can supply some pruning saws, but please bring your own secateurs (as we don’t have any), and any other implements that you think may be useful.

Clothing needed Good thick gloves (though we can supply a pair if you don’t have them), wellies or study boots, (it may be muddy, especially on the walk down through the woods) and common sense clothes to cope with the elements.

Children All are welcome including children; however, under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

After the task (and the walk back up the hill) we will most certainly be in need of tea and cakes from our very own Kim the Kake.
