From Jersey Conservation Volunteers

This month we’ll be doing some gardening!

The details

A small site in Vallée des Vaux, now planted as a hazel coppice, Dawson’s Garden was once a garden, as the name suggests. Whilst the hazel trees are doing really well, some of the previous garden plants are doing their best to make a revival, and need removing.

The site The site is just before you reach The Harvest Barn if you’re driving from the Waitrose end of Vallée des Vaux. On Google Maps use this link. In the Jersey Phone Directory it’s Map 8, J1.

Parking Our planned parking fell through, so I’m afraid that parking will be on the street. Maybe car-sharing is the way forward as it is a little limited in the valley.

The task There are a large number of bamboo plants to deal with, the second lot of hazel trees need coppicing, and numerous other jobs to be advised on the day.

Tools needed Please bring any cutting tools you may have, hand saws, loppers, sickles; gloves if you have them and most importantly, bundles of enthusiasm!

Clothing needed Please dress for the weather, and wear sturdy footwear, we will be working on rough ground.

Children All are welcome, young or old. Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult, but are very welcome.

Refreshments will be provided afterwards, of course, by our favourite purveyor of all things cakey… Kim.
