Still, I was pleased that my lot did’t let me down this year despite the sleet/rain we had. So I will just list rather than number them: sparrows, starlings blackbirds m/f, robins, blackcap m/f, collared doves, magpies, chaffinches m/f (not seen to many for a while), Wild Pigeons (really annoying) and the goldfinches. The goldfinches turned up at the end of Feb and have been here since, they even brought young along now numbering a family? of 7 although not all seen everyday now.

Just to annoy the wood pigeon, g/tits, b/tits and about 7 long t/tits all turned up on Monday!

Almost forgot I always sex my birds when possible so, m/f is male and /or female.

Last but not least, this is a first for me,on Tuesday one of the resident carrion crows had a TOAD for breakfast. It was on the roof across the drive , couldn’t get a photo as to far away for my lens so watched it through binoculars. I guess not poisonous to them. So at this point I add that I have a breeding fish/toad pond which is covered so I think he may have just found a dead toad!

Finally, I also agree that we have lost too may trees and hedges. There is not enough management and care taken to protect them and I know it’s not easy or cheap but farmers need to do more to maintain their own land including the granite walls. I have to pay someone to maintain my big tree.

Blackbirds, Robin, thrushes, tits, collared doves, wood pigeon, wren, sparrows, starlings, I did have a couple of finches last year. My concerns are the amount of hedges & trees being chopped down, I think this is happening too much & being replaced by fencing, leaving the poor birds nowhere to nest etc. we had a huge fir tree cut down, near where I live & the doves loved it, now I don’t get so many visit. Well I came across this site, & I just wanted to add my list of regulars to it, many thanks, Sara.
